[Kirk is back! Though the Barge stole him back while he sleeping because it's an evil, evil entity. Why so late at in the day? Ship's time on the Enterprise is weird.]

Yeoman... Johnson, can you call down to Sickbay and get more of the little yellow pills? Maybe find some coffee while you're running around getting the reports from Medical and Science anyway, oh and that one Admiral Pike sent yesterday and I need you to let Scotty know that I reeeeeeeally wasn't kidding when I rejected that experimental upgrade on the cooling systems. I will hobble down there myself and take those plans away from him--are you getting all of this?

Why aren't you--[Have the 'oh shit, I'm not on Enterprise anymore, am I?' moment.]

Bones, you better have little yellow pills in your stash here or I'm going to die from an infection.

[Oh and it's not an away mission on the Enterprise if Kirk doesn't get hurt, so he got speared. Makes it easier to hunt him down and smack him for being an ass.]

[Jim just sighs and rolls his eyes, letting Bones fuss because he doesn't have it in him to struggle and run away at the moment. Maybe the yellow ones were the pain pills.]

"It wasn't my fault."

What the hell happened? [McCoy glanced at M'Benga's report before placing his scanner away and pulling out his hypospray.]

"What else? Negotiations went to shit." [That hypospray sparks some fear in him and he tries to slide away.] "I might be allergic to that."

Would you trust me? I've been treating you long enough to know what I'm doing. [McCoy snapped, adjusting the hypospray and placing it against Kirk's neck.] I know trusting me is apparently hard for you. Maybe we can try the professional level and work our way up. [He said as he released the spray.]

[Kirk hissed and glared over at him.] "I'm on pills for a goddamn reason, doctor."

Really? All those years of medical school must have confused me. [McCoy glared back.] I know what I'm doing, I made the mixture myself, so unless you want to question my professional knowledge and judgment more put a damned sock in it.

[So Kirk, very maturely, doesn't say anything. For about two minutes and then he nods towards the door.] "If we're just being professional, then I want some time alone. I need my sleep."

[McCoy didn't want to admit how tempting the offer was to just storm out. It wasn't like Jim hadn't set the precedent of leaving like he had a few days ago and god knew McCoy had set a precedent in his own life for running in such matters. Despite that, despite the anger every thing he knew of Kirk told him that leaving was probably the worst thing he could do for the other man.

He stood in place, glaring down at the man, arms crossing then lowering before his expression turned less sharp at the edges, more simply ragged and tired.] You should have taken someone with you- me or Uhura or that damned Spock. Why the hell didn't you? We're your crew Jim, you need to trust us.

"Is that why you're throwing this bitch fit?" [Jim scowls at him for a long moment.] "I didn't have time, for one and it was just some negotiation thing. I had no way of telling that this--" [A gesture at his wound] "--would happen. You were working here. I didn't need you on the Enterprise."

That? Don't you even start Jim, don't act like you wouldn't be questioning my trust in you if I pulled the same. I understand you're a Captain and I understand what that entails, what you don't understand is that we're officers of your ship and we have a duty to her and to you. [McCoy answered in a returning scowl.] You're the one who's not letting us do our jobs, matters of trust aside.

"You could've asked to follow me!" [Kirk gestures sort of wildly.] "But you didn't because you think that I'm going to ditch you for Spock."

I didn't exactly have the chance did I? [McCoy snaps.] And I didn't know about the god damned mistletoe. One minute you're making out with Spock the next you run off the the Enterprise- to that. [He gestured at the wound.] I should have- damnit Jim.

"Yeah, Bones. I was forced to kiss Spock because of psycho mistletoe and then I found shame and threw myself in front of a spear. You know me so well."

That's not what I'm saying Jim. I'm saying it was one damned thing after another. First that port and Pavi's damn thoughts, then the mistletoe and then you up and vanish without a damned word before it. I'm a fallible, imperfect human being you idiot, I-

[McCoy glowers more somehow.] Forget it- I'm your god damned doctor, I know better than to have an argument with you when you're in this state. [He walks over to Kirk's desk where poor Spock Jr. was cooing mournfully.]

"Because my life here isn't hard either." [Kirk practically spits at him, wanting to something childish like throw his communicator at Bones but he decides not to. Instead he goes with the intense silence thing.

For about two minutes.]

"What state?"

[McCoy very purposely did not answer that, probably more thanks to his pal Spock Jr. and the calming trill than he already tried willpower. When Kirk speaks again McCoy sighs from his seat at the desk, unconsciously petting the tribble beside him.]

You're injured, drugged up, tired and disappointed. [He answers.] That state.

"Doesn't mean that you can't talk to me."

Considering a second ago you wanted me to leave I figured you'd prefer the silence. [McCoy says, glancing over at him with a mixed look, one part residual anger one part reluctant relief they were here and arguing at all.]

"I want you to leave if you're just going to pull the doctor card all night. I'm not interested in having a doctor right now."

[McCoy watches him a moment before turning again.] I'm glad you're back Jim, even if you aren't.

[Jim sighs.]

"I'm not mad. I just kinda wish I could've said goodbye to everybody."

[McCoy takes a moment before responding.] How are they?

"Pretty great. They're doing pretty well, all things considered. Chapel says hi, by the way. And Scotty said something about making some moonshine for you. I think. I was pretty drugged up the first couple of days."

[McCoy couldn't help his lips quirking, which he blames mostly on Spock Jr and a good deal on the fact he could hear Scotty's accent arguing over what a 'real' drink was from those words alone. He sighs and stands, walking over to sit on the edge of Kirk's bed. He pulls at the covers, fingers ghosting over the wound with a frown.]

You know Uhura told me my life is my job and you. She said I should get a real hobby. [His brow quirks.] Or go on a date.

[Jim laughs softly, even though it makes him wince because of where the wound is. A little bit of that might be the way that Bones is touching it.]

"If that's your way of saying that I don't treat you right then it's very not subtle," [he says, waiting a bit before adding.] "I know it looks like I was running away but I wasn't. Enterprise needed me and I got so excited that I didn't think, I guess."
