[Kirk is back! Though the Barge stole him back while he sleeping because it's an evil, evil entity. Why so late at in the day? Ship's time on the Enterprise is weird.]

Yeoman... Johnson, can you call down to Sickbay and get more of the little yellow pills? Maybe find some coffee while you're running around getting the reports from Medical and Science anyway, oh and that one Admiral Pike sent yesterday and I need you to let Scotty know that I reeeeeeeally wasn't kidding when I rejected that experimental upgrade on the cooling systems. I will hobble down there myself and take those plans away from him--are you getting all of this?

[Oh and it's not an away mission on the Enterprise if Kirk doesn't get hurt, so he got speared. Makes it easier to hunt him down and smack him for being an ass.]

Considering a second ago you wanted me to leave I figured you'd prefer the silence. [McCoy says, glancing over at him with a mixed look, one part residual anger one part reluctant relief they were here and arguing at all.]

"I want you to leave if you're just going to pull the doctor card all night. I'm not interested in having a doctor right now."

[McCoy watches him a moment before turning again.] I'm glad you're back Jim, even if you aren't.

[Jim sighs.]

"I'm not mad. I just kinda wish I could've said goodbye to everybody."

[McCoy takes a moment before responding.] How are they?

"Pretty great. They're doing pretty well, all things considered. Chapel says hi, by the way. And Scotty said something about making some moonshine for you. I think. I was pretty drugged up the first couple of days."

[McCoy couldn't help his lips quirking, which he blames mostly on Spock Jr and a good deal on the fact he could hear Scotty's accent arguing over what a 'real' drink was from those words alone. He sighs and stands, walking over to sit on the edge of Kirk's bed. He pulls at the covers, fingers ghosting over the wound with a frown.]

You know Uhura told me my life is my job and you. She said I should get a real hobby. [His brow quirks.] Or go on a date.

[Jim laughs softly, even though it makes him wince because of where the wound is. A little bit of that might be the way that Bones is touching it.]

"If that's your way of saying that I don't treat you right then it's very not subtle," [he says, waiting a bit before adding.] "I know it looks like I was running away but I wasn't. Enterprise needed me and I got so excited that I didn't think, I guess."

[McCoy moves his hand away sharply, looking over at Jim with a wry twist of his lips.]

It's my way of saying we never go somewhere nice. [He says in a bone dry tone, sobering a bit at Kirk's next remark.] I know Jim, hell, I don't blame you. I know the Enterprise always comes first- it should, just like the well being of the crew will always come first for me, even if that means making a hard decision about 'emotional compromise.' I just- I should have been there. I'm sure Spock ad Uhura felt the same way. And as for Spock-

[He shakes his head.] Forget it. If you two are destined for something then there's not much that can be done anyway now is there? And if you aren't then I'm acting like a damned child over nothing.

"Next time, I'll bring you back to the Enterprise. Show you all the sights." [Jim promises with a small smile.] "And for the record, none of you could've effected the outcome. Spock would've been on the ship, there was no need for a medic on the ground, or an interpreter."

[He rolls his eyes a little bit.] "That was another life, Bones. We've already pretty much decided that I'm not that Kirk. And I hate the word destiny. So you are whining about nothing."

Show me your rocket ship? That's a pretty weak line Jim. [McCoy says with a quirked brow.] Maybe not, but we still should have been there. None of us really belong here Jim.

[He tapers off, lips stretching thin at Kirk's words.] Easy for you to say. [He says dryly, shaking his head and running a thumb over the ribbon Uhura tied on his wrist, lips quirking slightly.] Or maybe not. Spock even apologized of all things.

[Jim shrugs because it's not like they can do anything about it now. Next time, he'll drag them all from their beds kicking and screaming if he has to.]

"That Spock always was a sweetheart." [He touched the ribbon too, raising an eyebrow.] "You promised to someone else, Bones?"

Yeah, a real gentleman. [McCoy says, glancing over with one corner of his mouth quirking.] Just a little festive cheer Jim. That's what Christmas is about you know, what you have, not what you don't. You missed a lot in four days.

[He picks up his PADD, finding Pavi's video post with his now unscarred face and hands it to Jim.]

"Pretty sure it was more like six days." [Not that that really needed correcting but okay. Kirk takes the PADD and stares at it for a few moments.]

"So you got over me by making Pavi beautiful?"

Wow Doc, great job on that complex procedure. [McCoy says sarcastically, reaching for the PADD.] We've been planning the surgery for a while, he finally agreed a few days before you left. Not everything is about you you know.

"... I don't like living in a world where Uhura makes you think I'm not important. I'm giving her a talking to. No more poisoning my best friend's mind. He needs to get used to making me breakfast and answering my every whim."

[He reaches over and pats Bones on the thigh.] "Seriously good job."

[McCoy didn't mention she was the one who dragged his sorry ass back from the pub when he was actually dealing with the fact Jim had up and left. He just rolled his eyes.] My money's on Uhura.

[Bones' expression softens despite himself.] Thanks Jim. [And then returns to normal, tone dry.] I feel like I should still be indignant here.

"If you think about it, my worst crime was being excited about my starship. And that's not bad at all." [Jim pouts a little bit.] "I got speared, Bones. You should pity me."

Yeah, you're a regular saint. [McCoy says, waving his hand.] Shove over, I'm tired as hell- and don't jostle your wound.

"I dunno if we're to the point of spending the night together, honey." [But Jim moves over anyway, half rolling on to his non-injured side.] "People might talk."

[McCoy laid down after pulling off his boots, giving Jim a dry look.] Yeah darlin', we wouldn't want people to question your virtue. [He shifts closer, careful of the wound.]

"I always knew you'd ruin me." [Kirk murmured, scooting in a little bit to plant a kiss on Bones because it'd been nearly a week and he kinda missed Bones. Like a lot.]

"Seriously you're not mad at me anymore, right?"

I think you mean the other way around. [McCoy answers, returning the kiss and yeah alright, it's pretty obvious he kind of missed Jim too. If that wasn't obvious before.]

I'm pretty sure this whole time I was more mad in general than anything else.

"That would imply there's something about you to be ruined," [Kirk teases, moving back to his own pillow.]

"Did you forgive Spock?"

Oh gee Jim, you're making me blush. [McCoy nudged his shoulder, settling in.]
