Maybe find some coffee while you're running around getting the reports from Medical and Science anyway, oh and that one Admiral Pike sent yesterday and I need you to let Scotty know that I reeeeeeeally wasn't kidding when I rejected that experimental upgrade on the cooling systems. I will hobble down there myself and take those plans away from him--are you getting all of this?

"Ow!" [Kirk protests, swatting at him.] "I thought they were in hypo form already."

They are, but they're in pill form too. [McCoy raises his brow.] Your choice.

"You're going to stick me no matter what I say."

Your thickheadedness is. You haven't explained exactly how you got that wound either- and no, saying 'failed diplomacy' is not a real explanation.

"Sure it is. We went. We talked. They didn't like it. We had to run. Hannity almost died. I pushed her out of the way. And bam, spear."

Sounds like a normal day for you. [He says dryly.] How's the pain?

"I'm fine." [Which meant that it was aching and kinda burning a little.]

That's not what I asked. [McCoy glanced over at the wound.] M'Benga did I good job.

"And I said that I was fine." [Kirk repeated, loath to admit that he was in any kind of pain, ever.] "Yeah, he's totally giving you a run for your money. Almost killed me only once."

You would say you were fine if you in what some people consider agony. [McCoy points out then snorts.] He's an excellent Doctor, I wouldn't have left the Enterprise if he wasn't.

"Not agony. And if you don't believe me, then just stick me with a needle because me telling you not to won't stop you."

Please Jim, try to spread the resigned air of how you suffer through my abuse on a little thicker. There are a few people who still have doubts.

"I'm just saying that if I refuse, you bitch about how I don't trust you, and then do it anyway. So I'm conserving energy and not bothering anymore."

Believe it or not I don't stick you with hypos for a cheap thrill.

"And I actually do run right at dangerous things to bother your ulcer." [Said very sarcastically.]

There's a bit of a difference there Jim. [He turns slightly towards Jim.] Would you rather I pat you on the back and tell you to have fun? No, don't answer that.

"That would imply you know what fun is," [Kirk answers even though he was specifically told not to.]

"That wasn't denying it either by the way."

Most people's idea of fun doesn't end in grievous injury. [He furrows his brow.] You're never going to get me to stop worrying over it Jim, might as well give up now. It's part of my job as your CMO and your friend.

"I'm not saying stop worrying. I'm saying that you could use a few lessons in listening."

And how would listening change the chances of you coming back in more than one piece?

"It might make me inclined to try really hard to come back in one piece if I'm not pissed off at you."

[McCoy sighs] For god's sake- am I really that bad?
