Okay, to save time, my name is James T. Kirk. I'm the Captain of the USS Enterprise. I've decided to come here as a Warden... to come back as a Warden?

[He has to ponder this for a moment.]

Honestly, I know I was here before but I must've been wasted the entire time because I don't remember any of it. So fill me in. What happened, what I'd do.

If you have no idea either, then hi. Nice to meet you.

[She's used to it, and as usual she's struggling to mind much. Being shamelessly objectified is better than a lot of other things, and she's looking a lot better than she did a couple weeks ago - more rested and better presented, not that he'd know any different.

She's also drifting back to the 'hot librarian' look now she's actually working in the library, so, enjoy that.

And she's just going to ignore the flirting and try to be helpful.]

Barge amnesia affects a lot of people. You might get some of your memories back, eventually. Sometimes they need to be triggered - a familiar situation, a certain person...it can be a lot of things.

You'll just have to forgive a few people for being worried on your behalf, in that case. What do you want to see first?

[Her gaze inevitably flickers down the corridor toward the engine room, which is somehow still the most honest answer to that question, but she recovers quickly.]

Probably the deck. Though it'd be pretty boring to someone who's grown up in a world where space travel is so normal.

[A small twitch of a smile.]

Alright. It's just at the top of the stairs...?

[She nods along the corridor.]

[ Certainly not. And were that the case, she'd certainly not be completely aware of it. And walking ahead of him nonetheless. ]

You said you... sort of remember being here. Do you have any idea how long it's been since you returned to the Enterprise? How much time has passed?

[ That doesn't quite gel with her recollection, but it's been a long time - she couldn't say whether it's just get memory playing tricks, or something else. It's not as if their illustrious employer (no. His employer, her jailer) has much respect for linear time. ]

I suppose it doesn't really matter. You're here now.

[ She opens the door onto the deck and steps out; the air is cooler up here and she breathes deeply. ]

[ She smiles, faintly, cautiously. ]

I suppose it makes a change for you to be so... exposed, like this. It's not space exactly, more like the space between spaces. Whatever there is between alternate universes.

[ She's wrong-footed for a moment, but only a moment. He doesn't remember anything, she reminds herself; at least not enough. ]

Most people on board are from different planes of reality. It stands to reason that the Barge is its own place, or... no place at all, you might say. A void.

[ A prison ship for people who have died. Unless you take it on yourself to be so very special that the Admiral decides to keep you around even after you've earnt your life back. ]

Honestly?

[ She sets her forearms on the railing, peering up into the dark. ]

...the Barge can be awful. It needs the best of you, 24-7, but it draws out the worst and throws it in your face and everybody else's for good measure, over and over and over. Things happen that make you lose all control over yourself, do things you'd never do if you were on your right mind. And it's nobody's fault, usually, there's nobody to take responsibility. All you can do is shrug and make your apologies and try to move on.
