A Message From Your New Captain

[Much like when the Admiral makes his announcements, the voice of one James T. Kirk floods the hallways and rooms of the Barge and he sounds oh so very pleased with himself.]

Attention people of the Barge.

We've had ourselves a little adventure recently and I won't bore you with the details because it's a long though at times, riveting tale. So I'll just cut to the chase: our dear Admiral isn't running this thing anymore.

I am.

James T. Kirk for those of you haven't had the pleasure. Along with Captain Harkness and Captain Solo who is taking control of the helm.

Then what do you call it? If I remember correctly the first time you pulled something like this you were sent off to an ice cube of a planet, and then the next you were choked on the navigation console. Maybe this time someone will try to crack your thick skull.

They'd have to find my thick skull first.

We should redesign the Enterprise. It's kinda nice up here.

[seriously now] Jim, tell me you're sure about this.

I'm not going to crash the thing. I'm not going to lead us to our deaths. I'm not going to abuse the power.

I just want to be in control again. I like it. I like it a lot.

All that's not what I'm worried about, it's that Admiral and how he feels about all this that concerns me.

[a sigh.] Fine Jim, I have your back. Better not regret it. I swear to god if you get yourself killed with this stunt I'll make those other vaccines look like pin pricks Captain.

The day you listen to medical orders is the day hell freezes right over.

Uh no? Not really. Like I said, it's terribly long and kinda boring except for the end. That's the best part.

[a pause] Be careful Jim.

There's a lot of points, I'll admit that.

I will attempt to be careful, Bones. And if anyone gives you or the kid problems, tell me and I'll use my new powers to smite them or something. Since I like you two so much.

Heaven forbid you do something simply.

We're not the ones who need to be worrying. People are pissed Jim, and they don't have Starfleet's training in control and morality.

They also don't have Starfleet's training in combat either.

I heard talk of a revolt. Is this true?

But they have numbers.

Nothing concrete from what I can see, but I've had enough psych classes to tell this is going to boil over sooner rather than later. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if it looks like anyone is going to move.

I don't really want anybody to get hurt, Bones, but if they attack me first, I'll have no choice but to defend myself. And you know as well as I do that I can kick the crap out of anybody, except maybe a Vulcan but we seem to be lacking those around here.

Jim, have you heard of mob mentality? I know you can hold your own but if a good group is formed even you're going to have trouble, Starfleet training or not. You have to try and think of a way to appease these people.

And how do you suggest that I do that, Bones? They're all too busy pitching their bitch fits right now to listen to any kind of sense or even attempt to be reasoned with and I'm too comfortable up here to come down there and reason with a bunch of closed minded children who are entirely resistant to change.

I realize that Jim, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try to think of a way to cut off possible violence before it even begins. I wasn't lying when I said you were the best damned captain Starfleet has, we just need to figure out a way to show them that.

People learn best through action, I've discovered. The best way to prove that I'm the best captain is to keep on being in command and not crashing.

I'll give them two days to calm down and then I'll listen to any complaints that are put my way.

They don't seem to be appreciating the smooth ride.

Fine, watchful waiting it is. I guess that means that game of yours has been put on hold.

They are truly a bunch of ungrateful children.

Don't you know, Bones? This kind of means that I've won.

It's a prison, what do you expect?

Like hell you did. Once things calm down your ungrateful ass is getting dragged to this sickbay even if you go kicking and screaming like usual.
