What else has happened? [She noticed him push his drink away and looked slightly puzzled by the action.]

[He's trying not to be a broody drunk, Uhura. Accept it. And also since he just came from Enterprise, he doesn't feel like drinking a whole lot. The responsibility is carrying over.]

"Shego beat the Joker unconscious. And then she died during the whole thing last week too."

And you're feeling guilty. [It wasn't a question.]

"I should've been here."

But you weren't. You can't fix that. [She took a small drink.]

"Doesn't make me any less responsible for her." [Kirk reached for his glass again but just so he could fiddle with it.] "I thought she'd be fine for a week."

You can't help what happens when you're not around, Jim. And you can't feel guilty for going.

"I don't regret it, Leia's happier now. But I shouldn't have left Shego alone."

[She reached over to put a hand on his.]

You can't make everyone happy at once, Jim.

[If she was looking carefully, she'd see that Jim smiled a tiny bit when she put her hand on his. And that was the only reaction he gave.]

"What if she hadn't come back? What if she'd just been lying around dead until I decided to come waltzing back in here?"

[Uhura shrugged and, having caught the small smile, didn't take her hand away.] You know that none of the other wardens would have allowed that, Jim. We would have petitioned to have her back.

"You shouldn't have to because I should be here. I'd bet anything that she was half convinced I wasn't coming back."

[She withdrew her hand.]

Jim, stop it.

[Jim immediately put his free hand in his hair and tugged at it.]

"Do you blame her for thinking that? Cause I sure as hell don't. It's frustrating but she has a reason."

Yeah. I do. Because you didn't do anything wrong, Jim. Nothing. [She finished her drink in one quick movement, frustrated.]

"I could've done something better than." [Jim stared down his drink, like he was trying to figure out why he'd been holding out on downing a whole bottle.]

"You're not going to talk me out of feeling guilty."

Then what am I supposed to do? Let you sit here in self pity and guilt? [She shook her head.] You know me better than that.

"Let's talk about something else then. You think Ana's a lot closer to graduating now?"

After what she did for me. Yes. I think she's very close. Very...close. [Uhura smiled a bit.] But I don't know if she'll come back like Paddy did.

"That's good." [Jim finally caved and took a long drink off his glass.] "Honestly yeah, she doesn't seem the type. Would that disappoint you?"

Paddy didn't seem the type to come back, either. I thought he'd stay with his family. [She shrugged.] But no. It wouldn't disappoint me.

"Ana's flightier than Paddy." [She reminded him of himself like that sometimes.] "But who knows. This place is weird for everyone."

It is. [She reached over and put her hand on his again before standing up.]

I'm going to get another drink. [She really just didn't want to think about what would happen when Ana graduated.]

[Jim gave her a slight smile again and finished off the rest of his drink in one go.] "Get me another if you don't mind."

[She came back with what he had been drinking before, as well as another drink for herself. She didn't sit down, though.]

Come on. Let's go somewhere else.
