Imagine my everlasting shame when it was brought to my attention that you haven't had your physical yet. A man of your age and experience should know that they are vital to a man's health.

You need to report to the Infirmary. Right now. Or else I'm going to be forced to take drastic measures.

[ooc: Kirkling found the medical files. So he snooped. And is using that to win his bet with Bones FOREVER.]

[Kirk is certain that he's in trouble.

For nothing, he might add. He got the Admiral to consent to a physical. Bones should be patting him on the back, not telling him that they need to talk.

Nothing good ever came from those words.

But he didn't try to put it off because he was James T. Kirk damnit. He wasn't afraid of anything. Not even the doctor in his room who liked to stick him with needles.]

"Boooones?"

[McCoy still wasn't sure if he was enjoying the break or already antsy, maybe a healthy mixture of the two. He could tell from the twitch of his fingers it was going to end in unrest, boredom and damn, how did an active guy like Jim handle it? He considered what he could do to possibly get Jim something to do all day rather than work himself to the ground in the gym (McCoy's limbs were already protesting the schedule he had set up).

When Jim came in he looked up from his seat on the bed, brow quirking.] How was work darlin'? [He asked with a mocking drawl.]

"It was lovely." [Which means there hasn't been many terribly injuries, nothing that Peter and Martha can't handle and he actually likes talking to Peter. So that's pretty nice.

And he has complete access to the medical files on board, which he really likes.]

"How's being me?"

Pointlessly exhausting. [McCoy answered, running a hand over his face.] Rayne wants me to give your inmate a gold star.

[Kirk frowns.] "What for?"

'Administrative stuff' and apparently passing some test by not using a weapon she was entrusted with for a while. [McCoy answers.] I told her not to pull that shit without telling you about it first.

"Well, she should've told you at least this week anyway." [Jim pushes his lips from side to side for a moment before adding,] "Shego wouldn't use a weapon if she had nothing to shoot at or wasn't annoyed about something. So that's not really passing any test."

Most inmates would have taken the opportunity. [McCoy pointed out, brow raised.] It's only a matter of time before she graduates- though considering she's as stubborn as you are that's probably wishful thinking.

"She's a goddamn green Barbie who's the girl version of me five years ago... with less alcohol and sex." [Pause.] "And she doesn't respond as well to dares."

So she's a more mature version of you. [McCoy responded, giving him an incredulous look.] What's your plan for her anyway?

"I don't have to get her to care about everyone. But she has to care about something. I just have to find it. It's like a treasure hunt."

Just don't call it a 'treasure hunt' to her face or you'll deserve whatever bodily harm she inflicts. [He paused, quiet a moment before looking back up at Jim.] Do you remember when I told you I'm not going to be some flavor of the week?

[Jim froze at that those words, eyeing Bones suspiciously.]

"Yeeeah?"

[Bones just gave him an exasperated look back for his suspicious one.] I'm not going to say I expect you to be monogamous but I'm not going to pretend I like it either. [He answered after a pause, frowning as he stood.] You smelled like her for Christ's sake.

[Some self preservation instinct kept Jim from asking which girl he smelled like. But it didn't stop him from smelling himself right then and there to make sure that he didn't smell like anyone else. He didn't think he did but it didn't hurt to make sure.]

"I'm sorry?" [He offered because that seemed easiest.]

[McCoy rolled his eyes at the answer and action, crossing his arms. He expected it, really, but he was old fashioned. That was one thing Jocelyn could never accuse him of and never tried to, being unfaithful.] Sorry. You're impossible. I don't want an apology damnit, I want- [He paused, as if trying to figure it out. He gave up after a moment, stepping forward, closer, and dropping his arms.] I'm not in this for kicks Jim. I'm won't ask you to change your ways right out of the blue but I'm not going to put up with you coming back here and reeking of sex, you understand me?

"Yeah. Showers are good. Got it," [Jim said quietly, biting down on the inside of his cheek.] "I'm not.. in it for kicks, either. For the record."

[McCoy stared at him a long moment before asking levelly.] If I asked you to stop would you?

[Kirk didn't answer right away, too busy weighing everything in his head. Was it worth it to push Bones's buttons about this? Probably not. And sleeping with one person was an entirely foreign concept. That implied there was a real relationship going on or something.]

"I don't care about them," [he said finally, which was neither a yes or a no.] "And it's not a reflection on you if I sleep with someone else. They're just... kinda there, you know? A hand's a hand and a mouth is a mouth but you're my Bones."

[McCoy sighed, some of the tension leaving his shoulders but in a nearly resigned way, like fighting a losing battle. He knew that damnit, he had been in Kirk's head and knew he mattered to the young man, which should have been enough for him. And it was, to some extent.]

You really don't get it do you Jim? [He asked, tone bitterly amused as he shook his head.]

"Am I offending your delicate Southern sensibilities?"

Yeah Jim, because where I come from when people are more than just fuck buddies they don't like to share. [McCoy snapped.]

"So you're jealous?" [Kirk raised his eyebrows at him.] "Can I have friends? Can I talk to other people or should I run it past you first?"

Don't pretend you don't know what I mean. [He glares right back.] Hell, maybe you don't, lords knows I can never tell.

"Do you trust me at all? Because it feels like to me like you think I'm going to find someone I like better so you have to stake your claim on me. I'm not a piece of land, Bones. Or a horse."
