I'm back.

The Barge is still standing, it seems like. That's... nice.

So. How's everyone been? Still in one piece? Shego? Anyone new? Hello. I'm Captain James Kirk. I was here... a while ago.

[ooc; If you know Kirk reeeeeeeally really well, you might notice that he sounds kind of wheezy. It's not Enterprise if Kirk doesn't get injured at some point. And you really don't need both of your lungs, if you think about it. He's been gone for 4 months on his end so he really has no idea how long it's been here.]

"Okay." She paused for a moment, wondering where to begin. "I know it's forever ago for you now, but you remember the space station port, right? What Profit tried to do to me and Arthas?"

Jim frowned for a moment because he actually didn't remember that port. And that concerned him a little because he wasn't sure if it was just because it had been a few months or because he was actually starting to forget things.

"Refresh my memory."

She looked at him uncertainly because she was thinking much the same, but there were bigger things at stake.

"Okay, so. There was a port, kind of grimy space station thing. We both ended up getting assimilated or whatever - you were some kinda slave trader, and I was working for Arthas. Profit wanted him off the Barge for whatever reason, so he paid Space Me to take Space Arthas and get as far away as possible so we couldn't get back afterwards. He didn't know me, didn't care about me, didn't care he was going to destroy - everything. Everything that I am." She bit off the words. "I was just collateral damage."

Shit. He really didn't remember this. But he tried to keep that from her for the most part because that really wasn't important right now. And he could see where this was going anyway. "What happened with him?"

"Okay, well. Back in January, after the Joker killed me, Mozenrath...made a potion. For him. That would make his worst nightmare come true. Joker left before he could use it, so....he gave it to me." She swallowed. This was worse than admitting it to Kenzie, worse even than admitting it to Tim - only now was she realising that on the entire Barge, the only person she couldn't deal with thinking she was a monster for what she'd done was Kirk. "I broke into Profit's room and spiked his wine, I didn't get what would happen, he was hallucinating, I..."

She stared at the floor. "I basically tortured him. For six hours."

It was probably bad that the first thought that came to Kirk's mind was a mild relief that she hadn't been killed by Profit. Then it was just raging guilt that he hadn't been here for it and disappointment that she'd done it at all and a lot of irritation with her thinking it was even a good idea.

"I can tell you aren't proud of it. So I assume I don't have to tell you that if anything even remotely like it happens again, you'll think going to Zero is a vacation. But what the hell did you think was going to happen? When has something Mozenrath endorsed been a good idea?"

She didn't meet his eyes. "I don't know." It was literally all she could say. She hadn't known then, didn't know now - she had been furious at him and just beating the hell out of him had felt like it wouldn't have really hurt him.

"Let's start with the revenge, eye for an eye thing you keep coming back to then. And how it's never worked out in a positive way for you."

She frowned at him. "'That I keep coming back to?' Once. One time, I beat up Joker because he killed Prefect. Did I ever go after Sylar for killing me? No. Did I ever take it out on the engine room nerds for getting my face melted off? No. Don't talk about this like it's - like it's a habit."

"Help me understand why you did it then if you don't have a habit of taking everything personally, which you do by the way. And don't tell me 'you don't know'. You know. There was some thought that went into it, even if it doesn't make sense now. Why didn't you throw that potion out when you got it?"

"I - " She couldn't say she didn't know again, even if she genuinely didn't that time. She already had the nanomite syringe, she hadn't needed anything else for emergencies. "It didn't occur to me. I didn't want to use it, so I just threw it in a drawer and forgot about it. I know I should have thrown it out, I - I know it was stupid."

"Do you have anything else hidden away in a drawer somewhere?"

"No. I - no." She paused. Maybe an element of truth would stop him tearing her room apart to make sure. "I have a tribble. That's it."

Have a confused frown for that. The tribbles were ages ago, you pack rat. "How long have you had that?"

Shego hesitated. "A yeah and....huh. Year and nine months, I guess. I didn't figure they'd live so long."

"Tribbles are an eternal mystery to the universe." He was quiet for a moment before he glanced over at her. "We're coming up on two years together... in a way, now aren't we?"

"End of the month," she said automatically. Yeah, she'd been thinking about it.

Because she missed him so much, right?

"You completely sick of me yet?"

"Just thinking about you makes me nauseous," she said blandly, then looked up. "I got assigned to another Warden while you were gone. Patrick Kenzie."

That name sounded familiar but Kirk wasn't sure if he could put a face to it. And that worried him a little bit too. Stupid memory problems.

"Temporarily or permanently?"

She shrugged. "Temporarily, I think. Why, you completely sick of me?"

"Not a chance. Just trying to figure out if this was turning out to be a repeat of last year."

"Oh." She paused. "He came back - Banner, I mean. Only it's one of those deals where he's totally never been here before and doesn't remember anything."

"You're kidding? That Admiral has a sick obsession with fucking with memories."

"It might not be exactly the same guy. Barge is all about this 'alternate universe' crap." She wiggled her fingers in a vague indication of 'weird shit'.
