I'm back.

The Barge is still standing, it seems like. That's... nice.

So. How's everyone been? Still in one piece? Shego? Anyone new? Hello. I'm Captain James Kirk. I was here... a while ago.

[ooc; If you know Kirk reeeeeeeally really well, you might notice that he sounds kind of wheezy. It's not Enterprise if Kirk doesn't get injured at some point. And you really don't need both of your lungs, if you think about it. He's been gone for 4 months on his end so he really has no idea how long it's been here.]

Shego was still of the opinion that both parties needed a knife to make it a knife fight. Otherwise it was just a scuffle followed by stabbing.

"Whatever. Did you fix the planet?"

She was probably right but there was a knife involved and he put up a really good fight, so. It worked.

"Yeah. Hopefully. They better stick to that damn treaty."

"You can always go back if they don't," she said dryly. Yeah, and she could go off the rails and get messed up by a raptor again. It was hard to imagine how much of that would have happened if he had been around.

It was probably better not to think about it like that. Or else Kirk would never stop brooding about it.

"No. I'm not going back to the planet. They can send someone else."

"Great. Maybe they'll take a gun that works." She dropped back onto the bed with a 'whump'. "How are McCoy and Uhura?"

She'd kind of liked Uhura, towards the end of her stay on the Barge. Didn't give half a damn about Montgomery or Spock though.

"Good. Real good, actually." Probably the only reason he didn't consider the trip home a waste of time was because he was in the end forced to deal with the problems he had with his crew and find a solution to them. And maybe he liked that instead of holding grudges but he'd never admit to it.

"I forgot how I get a sick pleasure out of making that eyebrow of his twitch like crazy."

She wasn't sure how she felt about this abruptly positive opinion of his crew, because that meant he'd start feeling homesick again, and she had hated feeling like the thankless task of being her Warden was constantly being compared to the appeal of being back on the Enterprise. Maybe if she was lucky they'd come back and jerk him around again.

"Uh huh. It's good to have a hobby, Kirk."

"Good thing I have you here or I don't know what I'd do for fun."

"Did the novelty of drinking and recreational sex finally wear off or something?"

"I'm getting old. A night with a nutjob doesn't hold the same appeal as it did ten years ago."

"I'm pretty sure that's your own fault for exclusively sleeping with nutjobs."

"And how many sane people are on this boat?"

There was an infinitesimal pause for thought. "Point."

Jim nudged her with his foot lightly, because putting forth the energy to sit up and give her a real sign of affection was too much effort. "I really did miss you. Even if you were kind of stupid."

She gave an answering foot-nudge that in all honesty was really more of a light kick.

"Missed you too. Jerk." She bit her lip. "I have one other thing to tell you and then I swear I'm seriously actually done."

"You're not pregnant, are you?"

"Were you always this hilarious? No."

"Great because I'd make a horrible uncle." Jim looked over at her finally. "What were you going to say?"

She frowned. This was really the 'best' of her confessions and she figured Kenzie would tell him eventually anyway, but it was also the most....embarrassing?

"The whole...dinosaur attack...thing. I wasn't just slow or momentarily blind or deaf or anything, I...I was there with Kenzie, it was going to cut his throat, so...I pushed him out of the way. That's how it got me."

Despite the fact that it hurts to do so, Kirk forced himself to sit up and look at her. He smiled at her softly. "Look at you. You're kind of like a superhero again."

She scowled. "It is not. I did it because I felt bad, not because I wanted to do something nice for the guy."

"Shego? Try not to ruin a good thing. You saved a man's life. Take some pride in that."

"Fine, whatever. Just don't call it heroism like my motives were totally selfless."

"My motives aren't totally selfless. I get my kicks out of being the big damn hero because I love the spotlight. You still did something good. You can call it whatever you want. I'm proud of you for it."

Her frown deepened but she chose not to pursue the subject. It had really been more an attempt to get herself hurt - Kenzie had just happened to benefit from it. "Thanks."
