[Doors on space ships are pretty good about blocking out indecisiveness, so T'Pol heard nothing while she was busy feeding Khoteth. The knock brought her to the door, though, and the door slid back to reveal one eyebrow arched curiously.]

[Jim sits and sighs and stares at the floor for a moment before he looks back at her.] "They're having trouble keeping the peace on a planet. They seem to think I would do better than Spock at it."

"Spock is fully capable of commanding Enterprise. And he's a better mediator than me. They don't need me." [And he wasn't sure how long this could take. It could be a week or it could be six months and he'd have no way to tell anyone here that.]

"No." [He sighs.] "I've thought about it though."

[Jim doesn't answer for a long time because he stubbornly doesn't want to talk about it. But then he remembers that the reason he came to her was because she's seen it at all anyway. Though he resents her a little for asking.] "They promises not to leave. And they chose to do it anyway."

You asked them to stay indefinitely. Lieutenant Uhura graduated an inmate, nearly two. Commander Spock and Doctor McCoy seemed to have no control over their departures, on both occasions they were present. You are familiar with how frequently that can happen here.

[And she pauses, frowning a tiny bit because there was totes someone else, hmmm...oh yeah] My time aboard did not overlap long with Ensign Chekov. I don't recall in what manner he left.

[He hates her for being so logical.] "And you weren't hurt when Trip left the first time?"

[That gets a little frown, because everything from before coming back is a little blurry.] I was. [Especially since she turned into him less than a week later.] It was not reason to hate him.

"Well I'm petty and mean and I hold grudges like no one's business." [He was quiet and looking firmly at the floor before he added,] "What if I go back and help out and it takes forever and I forget everything? Again."

[She just arches an eyebrow at that first part because she isn't sure about mean. Maybe petty. And she believes the grudges.] It's infrequent that we receive messages from home. It may be important.
