[And Kirk is there in ten minutes, vodka in hand as he knocks on her door.]

[Cissie opens the door for him. She was crying earlier, but she looks less miserable now, and she's got Tiberius the kitten in the crook of one arm. She smiles.] Hey you.

"This my namesake?" [Kirk pointed at the cat while offering her a hug at the same time.]

It is. [You get a hug and a kitten shoved at you, Kirk. And a cheeky grin.] Meet Tibs. Did you have a good vacation?

[Kirk is definitely a dog person but he pets the cat anyway.]

"I did. We went back to our homes for a bit. It was nice to check in with Enterprise for a bit."

[As long as he pets him, Cissie's happy. Once the door's shut, she puts the kitten down and lets him run to hide under her bed the way he likes to do when people visit.] I bet. What's it like, the Enterprise?

[Kirk raises a slight eyebrow at that cat running under the bed before turning his focus back to Cissie.] "It's only amazing. She's my baby. It's hard to describe since I'm sure you've never been on a starship before."

[Cissie smiles and goes to sit on the bed, folding her legs under her. She likes hearing him talk about the Enterprise; it obviously makes him happy.] Actually, I have. I mean, it wasn't much of a ship, but there was a war. I was a field medic. [...And it's only slightly less weird to tell Kirk this than other people.]

"Really?" [Kirk doesn't mean to sound so shocked. He just has long assumed that anyone not enlisted in Starfleet is from his past and starships are beyond them.]

"I didn't know you were a medic."

[The shock doesn't surprise her; frankly, anyone not connected to the Justice League or in Lex Luthor's superhero army or however that story worked, god, comics didn't exactly have access to that kind of technology. Cissie shrugs.]

It was really just the once, but I had the training, so I had to something. Martha's letting me help in the infirmary now, though.

[She pauses.] What do you know about superheroes?

"They wear their underpants outside their tights?"

[She laughs.] Technically, I think it's armor. But I'm guessing they're not exactly around where you're from?

"Not outside of comic books and stuff like that." [Jim narrows his eyes at her slightly.] "Why?"

They're real where I'm from. Some of them have powers, and some of them don't, like Batman, Green Arrow... That's--I used to do that. For a while.

"No shit?" [Kirk smiled suddenly.] "What's your secret code name?"

[She laughs and blushes a little. That's not the reaction she's used to getting when she shares this.] Uh, I was Arrowette. It was--wasn't there going to be vodka? It was my mother's code name first.

"Oh right." [Jim produced the vodka and looked around for a glass.] "What'd you do then? Something with archery?"

Yeah, something like that. [She pulls her legs up and puts her arms around her knees.] My mother wanted to be famous, like Green Arrow, but she had to give up archery. And then she had me. I think I was three or four the first time she had me try using a bow.

[Jim's expression softened for a bit. He got parents trying to have you live up to their expectations.] "Do you think you could teach me how to use one?"

[She smiled at that, relaxing a little.] Yeah, if you want me to. I guess it's probably not that common where you're from, huh?

"I'm sure someone knows how to do it." [Jim shrugs a little bit.] "But when I was a kid I decided that my time was better used learning hand to hand combat. And now I want to know more."

Hand-to-hand is probably more useful, even for me, [she says with a grin.] But I can teach you.

"Well if you need to be taught how to throw a mean right hook, I can do that for you."

[She laughs and smiles gratefully at him.] Thanks. I don't know that I ever really learned the art of the right hook.

[Cissie takes a deep breath and just... spits it all out in a rush. It's easier that way.] So Mom wanted me to be a hero. She did everything she could to make me one. She even home schooled me so I could take every class possible--gymnastics, ballet, archery, karate, kickboxing, drama, etiquette... I wasn't allowed to get anything but first place. Ever. And I did, because I was a Good Girl. And I always did exactly what Mom said. Until another hero realized she was sending a normal human girl into life-or-death situations and called social services on her and they revoked her parental rights and stuck me in boarding school.

[DEEP BREATH.] And that woman, the one who still thinks I'm fourteen and will do whatever she says and do whatever it takes to get first place? That's who showed up today to yell at me for announcing my real name and not being a hero anymore.

[Kirk doesn't say anything for like ten seconds before he just sighs softly and goes over to force her into a hug. Because he cares like that.]

"I'm sorry. Mothers are real bitches sometimes."
