captain_jtkirk | .073 - Kirk never has anything useful to say

[Spock hadn't bothered to argue too much when Kirk decided he needed to get wasted and drag Dean to the pub with him. He knew he'd get nowhere that way. Hence, the reason he was knocking--and very loudly at that--on his Captain's door, ready to give him a stern talking to. Or something to that effect.]

[Kirk hated whoever was knocking. Hated them with a very intense passion and he cursed them several times as he pulled himself off of the floor and went to answer the door.

Hm. Spock. Well this probably wasn't good.]

"That knocking is hurting my head."

[Spock cocked an eyebrow at him.] "I cannot say I am surprised by this, Captain. You are most likely suffering from severe dehydration."

[Kirk gave him a dirty look for that.] "Do you need something?"

"I thought it prudent to come and inquire after you. Yesterday you were less yourself than usual."

"How do you know what I'm usually like." [Kirk grumbled, stepping away from the door to let Spock come in if he wanted to.]

[Spock took the opportunity to walk in and pressed the button to shut Kirk's door.] "You and I may not speak on a regular basis, but I do observe."

"Then you should know that I like drinking."

"Especially since Doctor McCoy and Mister Scott left."

[Kirk stiffened at that, turning his head slightly to fix Spock with a cold stare.]

"Your point being?"

[That cold stare didn't faze Spock at all, he just answered with his usual calm demeanor that could sometimes be incredibly infuriating.]

"Simply that you appear to have become more careless in Doctor McCoy's absence."

"That's not true."

[His eyebrow raised again, not believing Kirk's denial.] "Perhaps careless is the wrong word. However, Lieutenant Uhura and I have noticed a difference in you."

[Kirk scowled at him.] "Are you two gossiping about me now?"

"On the contrary. She expressed her concern to me and I agreed with her. I doubt she would have mentioned it if it did not worry her."

[Kirk really didn't like the idea of two of his senior officers talking about him. In the sense that they were talking about what was going wrong with him.]

"I'm fine. I'm not allowed to have one night of drinking? I'm not on duty. This isn't Enterprise."

"I never meant to insinuate that it was, Captain. You are free to do whatever you choose, just as you always have been."

"Then why are you here?"

"An excellent question and one I do not know the answer to."

[It was only a little apparent on his face, but Spock was actually getting frustrated talking to Kirk. And for a Vulcan that said a lot.]

"I will inform Lieutenant Uhura that you appear to be good health."

[With his hands clasped behind his back, he turned toward the door.]

"I am in good health. I'm fine. Hungover but fine."

"Fine has variable definitions, Captain."

[Kirk let out a frustrated sigh.]

"At the risk of sounding horribly dramatic... you wouldn't understand."

"And yet we will never know unless you tell me." [He turned back to face Kirk again.] "It is quite a conundrum."

"Do you know what I was like before Starfleet, Spock?"

"I was never informed on the specifics of your background."
