.013 - lol he still didn't miss you Barge

So.

What'd you crazy kids get up to while I was gone?

Shego, you can stop sticking your Kirk shaped voodoo doll with pins now.

"Yeah, it does. Because I'm sure that you spent a good portion of your time stewing over the fact that I wasn't there and probably wasn't coming back. And you have no way of saying what I could and couldn't have done."

Shego rolled her eyes. "Ego much? I was more busy worrying about starving to death than I was about you coming back. Heck, I was more worried about having clean water to shower with than I was about you coming back."

Jim reached out to put his hand on her shoulder lightly, giving her the chance to shrug it off if she wanted. "I'm still sorry that I left and left you to deal with all of it on your own." He paused for a moment. "Who brought you back?"

"I'm an adult, Jim. We're the same freaking age. I can deal with stuff by myself."

She didn't shrug his hand off, just squirmed out from under it and shifted over to the opposite edge of the bed like a cat who was particularly offended at being petted.

"Nobody. The death toll stopped working when the lights went out, people just stayed dead. When the power came back on, everybody who died got revived at the same time, I guess. Nobody had to ask to revive me."

"That's good," Kirk commented quietly, suddenly a little sick at the idea of Shego staying dead all weekend if no one else had thought to bring her back just because he wasn't around.

"I'm not insulting your ability to deal. I'm just saying I wish I'd been here to help."

"Jimmy, again, there is nothing you could've done to help. So cancel the pity party already." She gave him a sideways glance. "And gimme my vodka back. It's not even like I swiped it from the pub - I bought it in Salem, it's my property."

"You're death tolling. You can have it back when you feel completely better."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you my mom and my doctor now?" But she had another two bottles stashed elsewhere so she didn't care enough to belabour the point any further.

"Someone's gotta be," Jim rolled his eyes a tiny bit. "Look, I know when shit bugs you and how you like to never speak of it and that's fine. But that isn't going to stop me from fussing over you. So deal with that."

"Whatever."

She tucked her hands behind her head and decided to announce the subject of her recent experiences to be officially closed.

"So what'd you do on space vacation, anyways?"

"We went back to Leia's home for a while. Met her brother." Which had been weird because Kirk did not meet people's families. "Then I took her to Enterprise for a couple days."

"Exciting." Or not. Shego hadn't known there was a way of making a journey into space sound boring but hey, there it was.

She was still a little pissed at him for going. Although she trusted him (kinda), she didn't trust the mechanics of the Barge or the Admiral (now less than ever). He had no way of knowing that the second they left the Barge, he and Leia wouldn't have forgotten ever having been there. As far as Shego was concerned he was knowingly taking that risk every time he went out on one of these dumb expeditions. So even with all the talk of fussing she was forced to conclude that he didn't really care all that much.

Jim shrugged a little bit. In all honesty, he'd liked going to see Leia's home but being back on Enterprise had been weird, especially since he'd been forced to interact with Spock and McCoy though he hadn't really wanted to. If they'd remembered, they hadn't given any indication to him and that was still bugging him, though he'd probably never talk about it unless directly asked. And even then he'd lie about it to make it less of a big deal.

"I don't think I'm going back for a while. They seem to have things under control. And I don't think Leia's going to have another nervous breakdown for a long time either."

Shego drew her knees up under her chin, huddling under the blanket. She'd had long enough to think about Kirk's circumstances that she was pretty sure she knew what 'seem to have things under control' really meant.

"Are you ever gonna be okay with going back to the Enterprise full-time? I mean, seriously? With everything McCoy and your Vulcan just...forgot about?"

Jim was secretly proud of her for being able to figure him out that well because he really didn't think a lot of people could do that. Mixed with feeling annoyed that she did figure it out, his expression didn't really say much.

"I'm not sure. It was... weird being back there."

She shrugged. "You could ask the Admiral to take your memory too, I guess. When you decide to go back for real." Then, flatly: "Not that it's like he needs to be asked."

"I don't want to do that," Kirk told her honestly. "I'd rather have my memories. Even with all of the stupid shit, it's still a part of me."

"I guess."

Shego was going to point out that if he lost his memories of the Barge, not only would they cease to be a part of him, but he wouldn't even be aware of the loss - but her head hurt and she didn't feel like pursuing that line of thought any further. Her mind felt ragged at the edges, like the inner engine had burnt something away that hadn't healed yet.

"So. I'm okay. You're okay. We're okay. So you can go now," she said, too abruptly, not caring that she had obviously run out of her capacity to pretend she was anything other than drunk and in pain. "I'm gonna sleep some more. Don't drink my vodka."

Jim arched an eyebrow at her silently at the abruptness of her declaration, but since he didn't have a solid reason to fight it, he just nodded slightly. She'd hate it if he just hung around and fussed over her all day and he didn't really want to brood right in front of her and that was clearly what he was going to be doing.

"Alright," Kirk said softly, reaching out to squeeze her shoulder. "Sleep well. I'm going to come check on you first thing in the morning."
