I don't think these things are malfunctioning at all but if it's just an excuse to roll call, then I'm Captain James T. Kirk. My friends call me Jim.

[He tips the communicator to the side, and there's Spock. Looking stoic as always.]

And that's Spock. Don't worry kids, he always looks like that. He won't bite.

It's-- 2258. I'm-- on a prison ship right now. Normally I captain the USS Enterprise.

( george goes contemplatively quiet for a bit, processing that. there's something about the way jim holds himself that's both curious and worrisome, but he manages a smile. the u.s.s. enterprise sounds like a fine name for a ship. )

Only 25 and already a captain? You beat me to it.

( of course, he's proud. )

I still don't understand how I'm-- speaking to you. Is this some kind of new temporal technology that we don't know about?

[he's quiet for a moment.]

I.... honestly don't know how it works. There are people from the 21st century here too so 25 years isn't too crazy compared to that.

( george has long gotten the impression that this isn't a normal reaction. most kids might be grossed out that they're meeting - well, technically younger versions of their parents. heck, if his own father decides to contact him from the past, he'd hang up (not really). )
