"Right." She drummed her fingertips on her knee. "So that just....stops. And you can do whatever with whoever."

"That is what happens when people break up, I think."

She pouted. "Hey, if there's a manual for how to do this right then go ahead and point it out to me. The last and only time I 'broke up' with somebody I totally wussed out and said we were on a break, remember?"

"I just got left here, so I'm not really an expert either," Kirk pointed out.

"Mmph." She stared at their empty glasses and wished she'd brought the bottle back out with her. "Nothing else has to change, right?"

"Right," Jim answered, thinking that she was talking about their friendship and not much else.

"Great." She fidgeted for a moment. "Well, that was....painless?"

Although breaking up was apparently easier when the other party had already tanked the relationship by being a thieving, lying jerk while in the midst of an emotional crisis.

"I can cry if you want?" He offered with a shrug. "Or get really drunk?"

"I'm not complaining, Jim. Eesh, what kind of sadist do you think I am?"

"I'm back to Jim now, huh? Big day."

She rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah, it's a real event. Try not to get too excited, Cap'n."

Kirk smiled a little bit anyway. "Too late. Is there an offer for a second drink in the air?"

"Yeah, sure." She jacked a thumb in the general direction of the kitchen. "You know where my stash is. Bring back the bottle."

"You really need to get something besides straight vodka, by the way," Kirk said even as he got up to go get it because it was better than nothing. When he brought it back, he handed the bottle off to her to pour herself something first.

"Why? I like vodka." She topped up both their glasses, taking a more circumspect sip this time. "And I notice you're still drinking it, sport."

"Begging mean no choice and all that," Kirk picked up his glass and sniffed at it. "Scotch is better."

"Untrue." She took another little sip. "You doing anything tonight?"

Jim waved his glass around before emptying it and that really felt like it said it all. He didn't have an Inmate to hound, and that was probably how the Admiral would continue to screw him over by not giving him one and he just wasn't feeling that social lately.

"Good," she said after an infinitesimal pause. "Stay over?"

Yes she was.

It was good there was nothing in his mouth right then because he probably would spit it back out at her.

"What?"

It made a kind of sense to her. Her relationships always got worse in proportion to how 'serious' they were. She probably could have carried on with Rayne indefinitely if she hadn't attempted to turn their 'arrangement' into a relationship and in so doing forced Shego to notice how crazy she was. Sex in the prior knowledge that romantic engagement wouldn't work out - what could possibly go wrong?

"You just said nothing else had to change."

"If you didn't consider us at least mostly broke up since you hijacked the ship I really don't know what to say to you. All I said was that the exclusive thing wasn't working anymore."
