[Jim holds out his hand because he knows where this is going.] "My PADD burned me."

[That is getting a frustrated grumble before he takes a look at it, eventually going for his medbag, looking for his dermal regenerator.] "You weren't doin' anything unusual with it?"

"Come to think of it, I was holding it over an open flame."

"With the PADD, Jim."

"No. I didn't do anything to do it."

"Great." [And he's just going to grumpily fix the burn before saying anythign else.] "There. Should be good as new."

[It really isn't that bad.] "Thank you."

"You're welcome." [And with that, he is just putting away the regenerator.]

"Do you want to hang out or do you have someone else to stalk?"

"I wasn't stalking you. I was headin' back to the infirmary."

"... what were you doing down here then?"

"From the library. Saw your post, made a detour. Next time, I'll just keep walkin'."

"No, you won't." [Jim knows. He's been best friend for a long time.]

[He just makes a sort of annoyed grunt.] "You want me to stay?"

"Only if you want." [Which is Kirk code for I missed you but am too awkward and captainly to say it.]

[We're both too awkward to handle shit like this. :|] "Sure."

[Lol hey buddy, I only have two years of memories you don't have, no big.]

"You settling in okay?"

[Why would that be an issue.]

"More or less. Not really excited about the predictions for what all this creepy stuff's gonna mean."

"Two years ago was worse. I didn't sleep for a month." [And then I died by horrible knife doom to the throat.]

"Martha told me. Kinda made it sound like we're all gonna get ourselves horrifically killed and then go back to actin' like life as usual by the end of it."

"Probably." [Jim just shrugged a little bit.] "Maybe with a lot of alcohol to go with it."

"Was I there, last time it happened?"

[Jim stiffened just a little bit, because if they talked about it then that made it real and that was not in the plan :|]

"Yes."

[Fortunately, that reaction's enough to get Bones to know to back off, and really, he's not sure he wants to know, because it's weird and vaguely creepy to think he had some huge chunk of his life he didn't remember or whatever was going on here.]

"So, besides burnin' yourself on PADDs, what've you been up to?"
