"No, you won't." [Jim knows. He's been best friend for a long time.]

[He just makes a sort of annoyed grunt.] "You want me to stay?"

"Only if you want." [Which is Kirk code for I missed you but am too awkward and captainly to say it.]

[We're both too awkward to handle shit like this. :|] "Sure."

[Lol hey buddy, I only have two years of memories you don't have, no big.]

"You settling in okay?"

[Why would that be an issue.]

"More or less. Not really excited about the predictions for what all this creepy stuff's gonna mean."

"Two years ago was worse. I didn't sleep for a month." [And then I died by horrible knife doom to the throat.]

"Martha told me. Kinda made it sound like we're all gonna get ourselves horrifically killed and then go back to actin' like life as usual by the end of it."

"Probably." [Jim just shrugged a little bit.] "Maybe with a lot of alcohol to go with it."

"Was I there, last time it happened?"

[Jim stiffened just a little bit, because if they talked about it then that made it real and that was not in the plan :|]

"Yes."

[Fortunately, that reaction's enough to get Bones to know to back off, and really, he's not sure he wants to know, because it's weird and vaguely creepy to think he had some huge chunk of his life he didn't remember or whatever was going on here.]

"So, besides burnin' yourself on PADDs, what've you been up to?"

[Just think of it as an alternate universe. It made it easier to accept.]

"Bunch of nothing. I miss my paperwork sometimes."

"Really." [Good god, this place must be boring. :|]

"Yeah, it gives me something to bitch about on slow days. Now I just bug Shego and go on four hour runs."

"And talk about unicorns."

"I just think it'd be really cool to meet one. What's wrong with that."

"Considerin' some of the stories I've heard about this place, I'm kinda surprised you haven't seen one yet."

"It's been a real disappointment for me."

"Any chance this stuff'll just be a sign unicorns are gonna take over the ship?"

"A realistic one?" [Jim shook his head a little bit, staring at the console in his wall as it started to flicker. Just great.] "Not really. And we're kidding ourselves if we try to think otherwise."

[He sighed, crossing his arms and frowning slightly, trying not to let on exactly how frustrated he was by all this. While he wasn't regretting coming here, he definitely hadn't expected it to be like this.]
