I'm back. Any disasters--actually, lie to me if there was. I don't need to know.

What, precisely, do we need to talk about?

[It takes Kirk maybe fifteen minutes to get down to Spock's quarters and he knocks impatiently and insistently when he gets there until Spock opens the door.]

[Spock pushes the button and the door slides open.]

There is no need to knock so persistently, Captain. I was aware of your presence after the first.

[Jim just shrugs in response to that and pushes his way into the room. He's got a lot of excess energy and he will use it how he wants.]

"I want to talk to you about the deal you made."

[Well, that made Spock all kinds of closed off.]

Why?

[Kirk thought it might.]

"When Shego graduates, I'm going back to Enterprise. And I want everyone to come back with me."

[Spock thinks about this for a minute.]

...I had hoped the Admiral could bring my mother back.

"Is it conditional on you spending the rest of your life here? Or when you graduate someone?"

To my knowledge, the Admiral will fulfill his end of the bargain when my inmate graduates. But, as I seem to have a knack for losing inmates, I cannot see that happening anytime soon.

[Kirk doesn't say anything for a long moment.]

"Would you come back if I asked you too, even if you haven't graduated anyone?"

[He has to think about that a bit. Then he looks Kirk straight in the eye.]

Yes. I have no guarantees that the Admiral can do what he promises.

[Not to mention he'd probably be lonely if Uhura left...but he'd never say that to anyone. Ever.]

[Jim gives him a small smile for that.]

"I'm glad to hear that, Spock."

[Spock nods and takes a couple steps away with his hands clasped behind his back. It's his classic thinking pose. He glances back.]

What brought on this sudden plan to return to the Enterprise?

[Because Bones and Scotty were back there and Kirk didn't want to be on the Barge at all. He wanted his ship back. He was tired of floods and ports and psychotic people killing each other all the time.

But he didn't say that.]

"I've been here almost a year now. And that's not right."

Others have been here longer, Captain. Is that the only reason?

[He knew that Kirk and Bones were very close, so it was only logical for Spock to assume the doctor's absence might be a factor.]

"The others aren't captains of the Federation's flagship."

[Sorry Spock, the last person he wants to talk about Bones with is you.]

[Can't say Spock expected Kirk to answer that really, so he just accepts the answer he got with a nod.]
