[Private to Spock and Uhura.]

Nero's here.

[Private to the Level Zero Guard Gang, so... Kahlan, Richard, Angelica, Lara and whoever else is doing it. And I suppose Angel can see it too.]

There's a new Inmate in 0 right now. He doesn't have a Warden yet. His name is Nero. He's extremely dangerous and I'd suggest simply not talking to him at all if you can help it.

So Christmas.

Who actually likes it?

So much for the festive season, eh? I'm sorry.

Crude impressions aside, are you busy this evening?

I'm kinda used to shitty Christmases anyway, so I kinda want to say that it's better by default of not being in Iowa.

I don't think so. Why?

Would you care for a game of chess later, or something of the like? You would be positively doing me a favour. I feel like I'm becoming a hermit without the usual excuse of being alone in a hostile wilderness.

I'd suggest a drink instead but hopefully you aren't drinking if you've been on the brink of death lately.

I've been playing a lot of chess lately, but I can probably squeeze in another game for you. If it's that dire of a cause, I mean.

And for the record, it's a flesh wound that I was allergic to. Totally different.

Well. I'd be more than happy to beat you at pool instead, if you've a great enough range of movement.

I'm amazing at pool. So you're on.

Pride goeth before destruction, James. Shall we say eight?

Yeah, I'll meet you up there.

[So he's still walking a little funny, Jim finds out as he heads up to the pool room. He's going to blame that on Bones because it's always the doctor's fault when he isn't in tip top shape, never mind that he was the one that basically threw himself in front of a spear and it hit in the hip.

But he can still play pool and that's really all that matters.

Kirk grabs one of the pool cues and twirls it around while he waits for Lara to show up.]

Which she does, a few minutes later; Lara pauses on the threshold and half-laughs to herself when she sees what he's doing to entertain himself.

"At least you've a promising career in a marching band somewhere, should the business of space exploration ever go slack." She walks into the room proper, approaching him at the table. "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."

"The universe is getting awfully small," Jim says with a laugh. He stops fiddling with the pool cue, leaning it against the table for the time being. "I've only been here for like minutes. I can manage on my own for that long."

"Of course."

Lara started racking up the balls for a new game, her long braid slipping over one shoulder and brushing the felt.

"...my Inmate disappeared without warning or trace a few days ago. Miss Parker. I'm assuming that like everything else that happens here, that's entirely unremarkable."

"It happens a lot, more than people would like." Jim watches her for a few moments before adding, "Is any of her stuff still here? That generally means they're coming back."

"Her room's empty." Lara frowned. It wasn't even as if Parker had even spoken to her beyond swearing at her and telling her she was completely irrelevant, but the sudden disappearance left her with the impression that she'd fallen at the first hurdle.

"I do hope she does come back. I'm not here to sit about and twiddle my thumbs, and this job sounds impossible enough without being denied the opportunity to actually do it." She lifted the rack and stepped away. "Your break."

"It's not impossible. Just difficult. I've already got one graduated Inmate," Jim told her, grabbing his cue and moving around the side of the table to take his shot.

"And it's not your fault if they leave. Stuff like that just happens sometimes."

"So I'm coming to understand. It does make the whole process seem frustratingly random, though, you must admit." She watched him break. "Who is - was you Inmate?"

It wasn't the best break that he'd ever done but it would do. He stepped aside to let her take her shot.

"My Inmate right now is Shego. The one that graduated is the Marquis de Sade."

[identity profile] playforsport.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Marquis de...? Hm." She gave a soft, incredulous laugh. There'd been talk of a Marquis bandied around the network, but she would never have guessed which one if she'd not been told. And presumably, his continuing presence meant that he served as a Warden, now.

"And you enjoyed the process so much you thought you'd try your luck a second time?"

"Ah yes. This would be the mutiny I've heard about?" She took a second shot, lined up a third and fluffed it, stepping away from the table with a tsk of irritation. "I'm not sure if congratulations would be in order for that sort of...achievement."

"Maybe not the actual act of it but it took a lot of skill and brain power to get into the control panel," Kirk stepped up to take his shot. Which he made, and the one after that but the third stopped just a few centimeters short and he growled slightly.

"You should be impressed by my mind, at the very least."

"Oh, I'm in awe. It seems that you're dense with hidden propensities." Not that she had any idea what sort of an undertaking it would be to get into the Barge's control room - absolutely not her area of expertise. Anything that ran off electricity was generally left to Zip.

"So how did you come by the flesh wound?"

Jim smiled at her a little bit, and then launched into a grand tale about how the Enterprise was supposed to secure a dilithium mine for the Federation, on a supposedly peaceful planet mind you, and the negotiations had been going very well for two days before the native changed their minds. Something about a sign from the heavens and the away team had to basically run for their lives to get back within the transporters range. While they were waiting for Scotty to get a lock on them, some of the natives caught up with them and ever the selfless captain that Kirk was, he pushed one of his ensigns out of the way and took the spear for himself.

Very daring. Very heroic. And he was sort of allergic to whatever the natives had on their weapons so that had been an extra hour of surgery and another day of careful observation in Sickbay.

"I was gonna wait a couple more days so that it healed up more but the Barge had other ideas," Jim concluded with a small shrug.

"I so dislike the idea that this ruddy contract has handed over our lives in full to the whims of an unseen, possibly insane dictator," Lara said, frowning, then softened marginally. "But at least you were able to return home, where and when you were needed."

She studied the table for a moment, then leaned almost the whole way across it to make a shot. "And rather good of you to save your ensign, which should go without saying."

"I actually think that I might've been pulled back because of Shego. Sylar attacked her like, seven hours after I got back." Kirk looked thoughtful for a moment. He couldn't really complain about it but at the same time, it was weird to think that it was going to happen and the Admiral had known about it.

"They're my crew. I'd do anything for them."
