[Prefect lifts his head ever so slightly, expression unchanged.]

Do you think I have friends here?

[Okay, so now he's openly lying, but he doesn't like Kirk and he doesn't want to have this discussion or have to explain to yet another person that some people like him as he is. If Kirk thinks that him being who he is drove Sam away, then he's not going to let the man push that thought on to Harvey.]

"Yeah. You're right. What was I thinking."

[Jim's lip curls, just a little bit and he's starting to wonder if he was assigned an Inmate that was completely unreachable. He kind of pities this Sam guy but putting up with this annoying thick headed idiot is grating on his nerves.]

"If you think that this act is going to make me stop and leave you alone. You're wrong."

[Jim brings his hand up, like he's getting ready for another punch.]

It will eventually.

[Prefect states with a calm certainty. He's not making this easy for Kirk. He doesn't want to make it easy for Kirk, because Kirk isn't Sam and Prefect has seen enough of other peoples Wardens to know that Sam was the only good one.

So if Sam got bored and left? Eventually Kirk will get bored and leave, and if he can speed up that process by closing his eyes and not hitting back, then Prefect could live with that. So Prefect closes his eyes, and prepares to continue not hitting back.]

"You're impossible. You're worse then me--and that's saying something."

[His hand comes down again, with a little annoyed huff. He's not going to hit a man that won't fight back. He has standards. But he also doesn't know when to stop and Jim Kirk really doesn't understand the meaning of throwing in the towel first.]

"You're stuck with me. Until Sam comes back or if he never comes back. So we're going to come to some kind of understanding. And I'm not leaving until we do."

[Prefect is usually pretty good at throwing the towel in, in fact he has a tendency towards being fairly accommodating, but if there's one thing that he hates more than anything in the world? It's change. He didn't like having Sam assigned to him, and he really, really doesn't like that he might be losing him, so impossible is a pretty good word for him right now. He tilts his head, then turns slightly.]

Fine. You can stay here as long as you want.

[This said, Prefect makes for the door.]

"Oh no you don't."

[Jim turns and scrambles after the other man, trying to grab onto an arm or a shoulder or even a handful of shirt. Prefect reminds him of himself a little bit, in the sense that he doesn't seem to understand compromise but mostly Prefect is just like the pointy-eared bastard. With no reason. He's not even Vulcan.]

"I'll rephrase that. I'm not leaving you alone until you accept that I'm your Warden now."

[Oh yes he does! Prefect has absolutely no intention of swerving away from his route to the door, however, this absence of intention is somewhat compromised when he feels Jim's hand suddenly gripping his arm.]

Get off me!

[He chokes the words out in a sudden burst of shock, jerking his arm back and away from Jim with a sudden and abrupt motion. Okay, so he shouldn't really be surprised that the Captain grabbed him, but Prefect can't help it. He doesn't like being grabbed.]

"What's the matter with you?"

[So Prefect will let him punch him but the second he moves to grab his arm, the man freaks out? Where does that even begin to make sense? Oh that's right. It doesn't.]

"So I can kick the shit out of you but I can't touch your arm? Were you kicked in the head as a child?"

[Prefect brushes his arm down, staring at Kirk guardedly.]

It just-- bothers me. That's all.

[He looks down, then shakes his head.]

There, you got a reaction Comrade, congratulations. Now will you leave me alone?

[Jim doesn't want to. It still feels like losing if he leaves now. Reacting like a psycho to being touched is a triumph, he'll admit to that but he wants Prefect to understand that he is in charge now.

But he sighs and rolls his eyes anyway. Then he nods a little bit.]

"Here's some homework for you. Get over that mancrush you have on him."

[Prefects jaw clenches slightly, but he looks away from Jim. He doesn't have a mancrush on Sam. He doesn't miss Sam at all. He just doesn't like Jim.

Really.]

Are you finished?

[He asks, shortly.]

"For now."

[He stands there for a few moments before reaching out and slapping his palm against the other man's shoulder. This is going to take some time to get what he wants, something that he isn't used to but he realizes that continuing to beat up and/or insult Prefect isn't going to work. He might actually have to plan something.]

"I'll drop that book off for you sometime. You'll love it."

[Prefect pulls away from the slap to his shoulder. He knows it's not prolonged contact, but it suggests a familiarity that Kirk really hasn't earned from him in his eyes.]

I won't read it.

[He states plainly.]

Goodbye.

"Maybe you can put it on one of your boxes then."

[Jim gives him a smirk, one that plainly says that this is far from over. The battle might be but the war was not and he didn't understand the meaning of defeat.

He moves for the door, pausing for a moment before he finally leaves.] "It's been fun."

[Prefect frowns, but says nothing as Kirk finally approaches the door. He isn't... quite sure how to take the "It's been fun". So he just nods, and waits for the other man to leave.]
