[Kirk's been on the Infirmary job for about a day and he still doesn't find it that difficult. Yeah, there's a lot of paperworky type stuff but it's nothing compared to the level that he found himself buried under as Captain of the Enterprise.

So he's kinda bored.

That means it's time to visit with the sickies.

Kirk tosses the PADD he was fiddling with onto the desk in Bones's unofficial office and enters the Infirmary proper. With a single glance around, he decides that T'Pol is the best choice and moves to her bedside.]

"Hey T'Pol. Feeling any better?"
with_discipline: (Loss doesn't work like that buddy)

[If she lets herself, T'Pol can see a blonder, taller man sitting there. She doesn't let herself, of course.]

Thank you, Captain. [She paused a moment, shifting her head.] You were doing Doctor McCoy's paperwork?

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, we traded jobs and stuff for a week. He seems to think I'm spoiled and lazy or something."

[He pauses for a moment.]

"Don't worry, I'm not actually doing the doctoring. That's up to Peter and Martha."
with_discipline: (You really ARE an idiot.)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[An eyebrow climbs until he clarifies. That's a good few seconds of eyebrow trying to meet hairline.] How relieving. What is it he is doing in your place?

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Sleeping?"

[Jim ponders this for a moment.]

"The work he does here is nothing compared to what I did on the Enterprise."
with_discipline: (Wait let me consider this bullshit.)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
[She inclines her head, even if it's a little awkward with the angle.] A captain has substantially more to consider than the ship's doctor. [She much preferred having Jonathan around to having to fill his shoes.]

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I miss it sometimes though. Not all the red tape and shit but the rest of it? You don't really get any of that here."
with_discipline: (Because everyone needs a little NX-01)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Enterprise was being decommissioned when I came here. Had that not been so, I'm not certain I would have taken the Admiral's offer.

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know what I'll do if they ever do that to my ship."

[He sighed softly to himself.]

"Tell me more about your Enterprise. I don't think history books do a good job of presenting the whole picture."
with_discipline: (I should really grow my hair out.)

It is ten years old. There were rumors that Starfleet was already broaching warp six. It would have been easily overtaken in coming years. [And she knew what kind of embarrassment that would have brought to her shipmates. It would have been an insult to Trip's memory.

Cocking her head to the side slightly, T'Pol pursed her lips thoughtfully.]
The ship, or the crew?

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"How's about the crew? They are what makes the ship, after all."
with_discipline: (Because everyone needs a little NX-01)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[She almost wished he'd asked about the ship.] Starfleet chose Jonathan Archer to captain Earth's first warp ship. It was a tremendous honor, and he rarely let that reflect on him. [Even his speech at the signing in of the Coalition, had carefully avoided 'patting himself on the back.'] He is a good friend, though we didn't always agree. [First time they'd spoken, he'd threatened to knock her on her ass.]

Hoshi Sato was our communications officer. She has an exceptional ear and was, I believe, the first human to be fluent in Klingon. Travis Mayweather, the pilot, was a boomer, born on a cargo freighter. He spent more time in space than most of the bridge crew combined. Our armory officer, Malcolm Reed, is...quite logical. Doctor Phlox is Denobulan; I doubt he expected to say on Enterprise for a decade, but he enjoyed it quite a bit. They are an excellent crew. [And there's a suspiciously absent Chief Engineer.]

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kirk had read about these people at the Academy. But hearing her talk about them was different. He smiles a little bit when she calls Malcolm Reed logical because that's pretty much a compliment in Vulcan.]

"Didn't you have a Chief Engineer?"
with_discipline: (Don't gaurantee if you can't stay)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Damn it, Jim. :| T'Pol nods, and her face goes blank, a little more Vulcan proper than she usually looks.] Commander Charles Tucker. The third. Trip.

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's just unnaturally good at poking at weak spots.]

"Did you care about him?"
with_discipline: (M; We agreed never to talk about that.)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-21 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's gotta cut that shit out. And in the mean time, T'Pol's subtly directing her gaze over his shoulder. Less eye contact = more control.]

Yes.

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
[He's versed in your Vulcan ways but he decides to be nice and not make it completely obvious that he knows.]

"I'm sure that you have a lot of good memories of him."
with_discipline: (Why can't I just enjoy this huh?)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-22 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He can be decent! She appreciates this. And her mouth twitches once before she suppresses it, voice wry.]

Some. [He would be so offended by this.] He became pregnant, once. [So, so, SO offended.]

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Kirk stares at her for a long moment, before his eyebrow lifts.]

".... what?"

with_discipline: (Loss doesn't work like that buddy)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-22 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[He gets a little Vulcan smile for that. Her eyes crinkle. Basically. A little. Whatever.]

We came in contact with a group of Xyrillians. In their culture, males carry the fetus to term. Only minimal contact is required and, obviously, Humans are biologically compatible. [She could practically see Trip glaring. And trying to baby-proof the ship.]

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[That's just... completely weird.

And he's a little jealous that she got to laugh, as well as a Vulcan can anyway, at a pregnant man.]

"Xyrillians, huh? How's about Vulcans? Are you compatible?"
with_discipline: (You really ARE an idiot.)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Baby-proofing the Enterprise. Just picture it. T'Pol arches an eyebrow.]

With Xyrillians? I did not endeavor to find out.

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Then it's up to dear Spock to test that."

[Jim winks at her, not being completely serious about putting his First Officer in the way of a group of aliens in hopes that he'll get knocked up.]
with_discipline: (You are such a slacker Archer)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-22 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Good thing, or he'd get the same lecture on keeping his hands to himself that she gave Trip.]

As Humans and Vulcans are compatible, it would seem likely. [T'Pol pauses a moment, considering before looking at him again.] Spock is half-Human, correct?

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Last I checked. I think that's part of the reason why he's... so easy to anger." [He rubs at his throat absentmindedly.]
with_discipline: (excuse me but wtf are you doing)

[personal profile] with_discipline 2009-10-22 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[That gets an eyebrow.] He attacked you?
