[Jim actually beats her up there this time, and he's getting a little impatient by the time she shows. Which he forgets about when he sees how beat up she is. That means she hasn't been down to the sickbay, which makes him a little proud of her.]

"I take back the part where I called you a doll."

[Shego shrugs.] I had better things to do with my day than go bother your BFF. Are we doing this or what?

"Don't say I didn't warn you but Bones likes to stab people who avoid him." [Jim pulls the phaser out its holster on his belt and waves it around at her. It's still got the safety on and it's set to stun, not kill, and he isn't going to teach her how to change that. She might figure it out on her own but that's a risk he's willing to take.]

"Now, ground rules. If you even think about aiming this at me or anyone that might be in there, I'll take away all of your girly stuff for a month."

Hate to disappoint you, Jimmy, but I have zero desire to knock you out with anything except my bare hands. [She reaches out to take the phaser. It looks like something Possible's computer kid might have designed.] Anything else?

"Don't mess with any of the settings." [Kirk turns off the safety before he hands it over to her.] "Now go attack some defenseless animal."

[The possibility of other settings had been forgotten before he handed her the thing; it occurs to her for the first time that he's giving her the thing he used to kill McCoy's would-be kidnapper, and even if she doesn't know how to turn it from a weapon of annoyance into a weapon of death? It's still a pretty neat gesture of...something.

But she doesn't mention it. Shego slips ahead of Kirk into the CES; she doesn't recognise the forest, which doesn't much surprise her. Almost immediately she hears a rustle in the bushes and smirks, slinging an energy bolt into the undergrowth. There's a high-pitched animal squeak and the sound of something darting away in fear.]

Just checking my aim, Jimmy.

"You know, it worries me a little bit that shooting bunnies makes you look so pleased with yourself."

[He stands a few feet behind her, his arms crossed over his chest as he watches her, ready to snatch the phaser out of her hands if she moves to do something bad with it.]

Hey, bunnies are smaller targets than I'm used to, okay? Sue me for taking pride in my skills.

[Shego levels the phaser this time, casting around for a likely target. A bird flutters between two trees and she grins, aiming and firing - and missing.]

Ugh. [She's treating it too much like a gun - expecting a recoil, something more resonant than whatever it is the phaser fires. She starts walking, not particularly determined, but on the lookout for likely victims nonetheless.]

"Phasers are different than old-fashioned guns." [He tells her as he follows her through the forest, trying to be helpful. In teaching his Inmate to handle a phaser better. He's really good at this Wardening thing.]

"There's no kick. They're meant for rapid fire. Stop trying to calculate for any lag. You don't need to."

Yeah, yeah, I'm all over it. [Better to treat it like using her power, then.

Speaking of which. Shego hurls an energy bolt into a tree, prompting some startled tweeting - and about a dozen birds flying for safety. She narrows her eyes, aims and starts firing. The lack of kick makes it feel like a toy, and it's weird, but then a sparrow suddenly goes slack in mid-air and flutters to the ground, stunned.

Not as satisfying as knocking out a human being would be, but still not bad at all.]

Huh. Cool.
