Introductions seem to be in order. I'm Sam Kirk, here filling in for my brother for a bit.

I have to be honest, I'm not sure if Jim was a Warden or an Inmate. I could see both, really. Since it's Jim. [AND THAT SHOULD SAY IT ALL]

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all.

[Sleeping in the same bed with someone wasn't really something new for Sam. Because you know, he was married. So it didn't really register with him immediately that something was off as he was waking up, still caught in that early morning fog where you don't really remember what happened last night. Like when you agreed to take your little brother's place on a prison boat.]

"And you waited until now to say anything? You left, Sam, saying I'm sorry doesn't change what happened."

"I needed space, alright? I was fourteen, and I hated everything about that place. It's the biggest regret I have, but there it is. I have a family now. I want them to know you."

"Well I'm sure that's really great and everything, but I have other stuff I need to worry about right now that doesn't involve soothing your conscience." [He wasn't really being fair, and he knew it, but seriously Sam, fuck you for catching him off guard like this and dumping all this on him. He turned away from him, fully intending on grabbing enough clothes to get by for a while without having to steal McCoy's and just leaving it at that.] "So if it's all the same to you, I think we should just-"

[He cut himself off mid sentence, staring at the holo he didn't recognize of both his parents, which was pretty prominently displayed on a shelf in his quarters on the ship he was apparently going to captain and that was just-]

"What is that?"

"It's from my living room. I gave it to you a couple of weeks ago."

[Jim walked over to it to get a better look, glancing back cautiously at Sam and frowning at him, his expression somewhere between suspicion, disbelief and maybe something that was maybe hope because just what.]

"You gave it to me?"

"I made a copy but I figured you should have one too."

[Wow. What do you even say to that?] "Thanks, I guess."

"Why didn't you come back?" [You knew Mom was sick. :\]

"I tried. But I was halfway across the galaxy and brand new at the station and broke, I don't know if you really appreciate how expensive it is to travel when you don't have your own starship. I just... couldn't make it work."

[Jim just nodded, looking at the holo in silence for a couple more seconds before turning back to Sam.]

"So."

[Spam]

"So. Do you at least believe I'm not lying?"

"I guess."

Sam wanted to roll his eyes at that, but maybe he didn't feel like starting another fight with him.

"So I woke up in a strange girl's room when I got here."

Jim let out a quiet snort of laughter. "That's not shocking." Your brother gets around, Sam. "Who was it?" Because if there was going to be someone wandering around wondering why he'd stood them up for a second date or whatever, he should probably know about it in advance.

"Shego, I think. I didn't meet her. Her brother was there instead."

"Oh." At least he has the decency to look slightly apologetic instead of just flat out laughing his ass off.

He definitely looks kind of amused, though. "Sorry."

"Well, it's not technically my fault."

"Just because you haven't made the decision yet, doesn't mean it isn't your fault."

"It'll be my fault in like three years." And therefore he's not going to be taking responsibility for it. "What ship do I captain?"

If you say Enterprise he might have a moment of dying of fanboyish glee, because that is one fucking awesome ship. And even if he was in the process of tearing through the Academy and then the ranks of Starfleet as fast as humanly possible, the likelihood that they were going to hand over the keys to what was going to be the new Federation flagship to some kid fresh out of the Academy were not great, so. He might be hoping it's that even if realistically it might be something else.

Sam you had so better not be lying right now. Jim just kind of looks surprised, but that is pretty quickly being replaced by a shit eating grin.

"Bullshit."
