.019 - ho ho fucking ho

I'm feeling like a snowball fight. Anyone else want in?

[Private to Iroh]

I believe I still owe you a game of chess.

Dear Santa,

We went over this last time. I'm not a big fan of this time of year. It's too bright and there's not enough rum in the eggnog to deal with all of the cheer. And I know that part of this urge to write to you is to give the the Admiral a list of things to magic into existence on Christmas morning to everyone's delight.

And I actually don't mind that because it feels like some tiny way of making up for all of the other shit he makes us put up with. Because material things really do that.

I was going to do this for her anyway, but starting on Christmas, I want Shego to have access to the Warden-only areas once a week. For as long as she wants. She can go with any Warden that she wants. Any Inmate will have to be cleared with their Warden and me first. She asked for it a while ago and I think she deserves it.

I think Leia would enjoy a copy of a History of the Federation book. Get Tim his own damn phaser to keep and tear apart if that's what he wants to do. Cissie needs a cat-sized Starfleet uniform for her cat. Gold since it's named after me. I have no idea what Uhura would enjoy, so I'm just going to cop out and say to get her a dictionary for a language that she's never heard of before. Prefect should have his own chess set for all that chess we play together. T'Pol should have something from Vulcan, a plant or a rock or something. Morgan's the kind of woman that deserves the best rum there is, so get on that.

As for everyone else... don't suddenly be a dick and suddenly decide to ruin Christmas Day. And give better sweaters next time. And you have only yourself to blame for the mistletoe problems.

Oh and if you can get an extra two days of shore leave for my crew, that would be great.

That's all.

[A competitive sort of smile.]

A shame, though - I was hoping for a battle royale.

this is a tragedy :c we can spam!

The people here are really losing sight of the holiday spirit.

See you on deck in an hour?

Sounds fine to me. There isn't much to do here.

[He'll be there waiting, whenever Kirk shows up - peering in a vaguely sinister manner from behind a snow barrier.]

[That's cheating, already being up there. Everyone knows that you set down the rules first. So Kirk just peers around, looking for Arthas, looking a little confused.]

[IS THIS A TRAP? perhaps he is acting confused so Arthas will come out in the open, exposing himself to ambush.

Perhaps he's taking this way too seriously.

Warning shot, over your shoulder. Normally this would be a severed head - an ambassador or hostage - launched from a catapult

...but a snowball works too.]

I believe you might be right. Shall we say this evening, after dinner?

Sounds good. Do you have a set or do you want to use mine?

I have a set, following our stop in Salem.

Then I will see you tonight.

[So Iroh's just hanging out in his cabin and making tea. There's a couple of lamps burning, and a chess set set up on the table he normally uses for pai sho games.]

[Kirk finds the door easily enough, rapping his knuckles lightly against it.] "Iroh? It's Jim."

He opens the door a moment later with a smile, ushering Kirk into an airy high-ceilinged space accented by green-washed woodwork. "Captain, welcome. How does the evening find you?"

[Spam] you're the only one I let push me around

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's finding me alright." He glances around the room, taking in the room in as subtle as he could manage. He hadn't seen anything quite like it before, so sue him. "How about yourself?"

"Quite well, thank you, quite well - I'm still finding my way through all these rituals surrounding 'Christmas'." Iroh says it as if it's an unfamiliar word, because it is, and gestures to the table. "Please, take a seat." He pours two cups of the ginseng and lemon tea he's been making, and brings them over to the table with him.

"Christmas is a landmine sometimes," Kirk accepts his cup of tea with a smile, trying to figure out what kind it is from smell alone. "I can explain anything if you're still confused."

"I'm good with black." Because he's Kirk and he could really play either with no problem.

"You are too generous, Captain."

Iroh had become aware of the slight advantage he was being offered, but took it cheerfully and made the first move after a few moments' thought.

"May I ask how your work has been, of late?"

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kirk's first move... was very untextbook. Just because he felt like doing stuff randomly.

"Being a Warden or a space captain?"

[Spam]

[identity profile] grand-lotus.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Either." He smiled faintly at Kirk. "Although I would imagine that the former has been taking up more of your time, lately."

"Just a bit." Jim grinned back. "I'd say the latter is still going better anyway. It's easier."

Re: [Spam]

[identity profile] grand-lotus.livejournal.com 2010-12-22 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Iroh made a fairly routine move. He had plans for later stages of the game but for now he was being calculatedly amateurish.

"So, do you still conduct the business of being a captain even while you are here?"

Re: [Spam]

[identity profile] captain-jtkirk.livejournal.com 2010-12-23 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes. I get updates. It's not like I'm signing requisition forms or anything." Jim made a move, stealing one of Iroh's pawns. "If there's an emergency I go back."

"I only wish that I had been permitted to demonstrate the same faith in the men and women who served under me. Your superiors are impressively flexible, Captain."
