"I don't think the Admiral gives a damn when it's your time. It was meant to be my time two years ago, remember? You cannot use the Barge as a safety net. It isn't one."
She stalked closer to him, almost toe to toe. "Staying here a little while longer so you don't wind up dead is a heck of a lot better than getting stuck back here because you did wind up dead. Are you even gonna come back?"
"Look, I get that you need to go home. I think it's stupid to go knowing what you do, but I get it. But you stayed when I didn't want you around, now I do, and you're telling me you might never come back? You need to tell me what other conclusions I should be drawing."
Jim was pretty sure that he was never going to stop misreading her, even if they weren't paired together anymore.
"It shows that we have shitty timing together. But you're never going to be just an employee or some hobby to me, Shego. I just can't make any promises about what things are going be like on Enterprise."
For a very, very long time she just looked like she wanted to hit him, and she was conscious that hitting him now would be much more satisfying than it would have been a few days ago because she would be able to throw him through a wall without breaking a sweat. Eventually, though, she relaxed marginally and nodded.
