Since it is a holiday and while I respect it, I don't celebrate or observe it. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a game of chess. Or any other quiet type of recreation if you can think of something better.

The going home part. Obviously. And it doesn't even need to be home. I would accept an 'anywhere but here' part.

Do you know what the plan is for guarding zero? Or did Sexby not say?

But you're right, she is very talented.

[Kirk moves his rook. His playing style probably doesn't make a lot of sense but he's also not trying very hard and is a sneaky fucker. So he could be making a trap.]

"Lots of people are really good with computers here."

You wanna go to the CES sometime? It's not that great but it's the best I can do.

[Sneaky fuck indeed. Tim takes his time, eying all those boards and Kirk's pieces.]

[He moves up a pawn.] Probably your whole crew. 21st century tech has to look like child's toys.

Aren't you supposed to be telling me I could have real, actual freedom if I quit being such a bad person?

"Bones would complain that he's a doctor and not a engineer but yeah." [Kirk smiles softly and moves another pawn up a level.]

"What are you getting at?"

I don't think you're a bad person and I figured you didn't want to hear it regardless.

[Tim brings up his bishop and shrugs, aiming for Kirk's rook.]

Just that one of your people is the most likely to have done it. But it was harmless, right?

No, I think you're a sexist, arrogant jerk in serious need of therapy for the Daddy issues. But you did that whole 'save the world' bit too, and it looks like what you do counts for more than who you are.

[Well, rooks aren't all that important in the long run. Tim shrugs again as he takes it.]

Not really. You don't have to get defensive, I'm not about to go shouting around. I just don't want my computer messed with like that again.

Then do something good if you want my job so badly.

"They're my crew. Of course I'm going to be defensive of them." [Kirk moves a bishop before adding.] "Why are you so paranoid about your computer?"

Wait wait wait, when did that come up? I don't want your job. I don't want to graduate. I'm just wondering how the heck you think I wound up as an Inmate if I'm not a bad guy.

I think you're lazy and cynicalbut you're also smart and you know the difference between right and wrong and you don't really seem to care about your old job that much.

I think you're holding yourself back which is weird because you want to leave so badly.

This might have passed you by in between getting laid and commandeering stuff, but this is a prison. Pretty much all the Inmates want to leave 'so badly'. Not many of them want to use the designated exit and neither do I.

And quit saying I know the difference between right and wrong like it means anything. By that reasoning, is it not actually worse that I made an informed decision to pursue a life of crime?

You refuse to graduate, so you really forfeit the right to complain about the lack of freedom. As if you recall, you're dead and your life choices put you where you're at, since we both agree that you don't have to be a nice person, you just have to make good choices.

And it's my theory that you wouldn't even be here, considering you're dead, if you weren't capable of being helped or if there wasn't someone who thought you deserved a second chance.

I guess I'll just stop complaining. And I'll still take the CES if you're still offering.
